The church has a long and unsettled history. It was destroyed entirely during the Hussite wars. In 1590, a Lutheran pastor was in charge of the church and mainly German residents therefore visited the church. This is why it was referred to as the German church. After being used as a military warehouse for a certain period, the church was consecrated again in 1816 and dedicated to St. John of Nepomuk. The church currently in the baroque style has the main altar created by the baroque painter Václav Vavřinec Rainer. The church underwent comprehensive reconstruction in 2003 and masses are currently served, and concerts organised here.
