Construction of the Old Town Hall was completed in 1559. The renaissance building is the work of the Italian architect Matteo Borgorelli. The ornate sgraffito on the facade with figures of the evangelists and saints, including the Bohemian patron St. Wenceslas is the most striking feature of the town hall. The stucco coffered ceiling supported by a single central Tuscan column in the meeting room on the first floor is exquisite demonstration of the architect’s fine skills. However, this meeting rooms only opens to the public on special occasions. The Latin inscription on the front facade of the town hall translates: Judges of the world, guard justice, small things grow in unity.
Lookout point: The tower in the baroque style added to the town hall in the 18th century is now open to tourists as a unique lookout point offering birds-eye view of Mladá Boleslav sights and the town’s surroundings. A coin operated monocular is installed on the tower’s gallery below the onion-shaped dome. All prominent buildings and natural features that can be observed from the tower are described on information signs placed on the railing on all sides of the square lookout point.
The entry to the lookout tower is via Pod Věží gallery situated on the ground floor of the tower.| all months | Tu - Th | 13:00 - 17:00 | |
