The Jewish cemetery (see metal trail) is located on the outskirts of Mladá Boleslav, in the area below the castle, on a slope by the old road to Prague. In the oldest part, dating back to the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, we find the grave of the important financier Jacob Bassevi, the first Jew in the Habsburg monarchy to be elevated to nobility.

The exhibition presenting the life of the Jewish community in Mladá Boleslav and the surroundings is located in the ceremonial hall. The building constructed in 1889 has an octagonal floorplan and a roof with a red lantern on the top. The first written mention of the presence of Jews in Mladá Boleslav dates back to 1471. Visitors find out from photographs what the local synagogue demolished during the socialist era (1962) looked like and where exactly the torso of the former Jewish ghetto with a dominating Jewish school building is situated today.

The gravestones constitute a unique open-air gallery. Their origin spans across four centuries.

Jakub Baševi (around 1570-1634), a partner and financier of the grand military and construction plans of general Albrecht von Wallenstein is the most famous person having been buried at the Mladá Boleslav cemetery. As he was granted an aristocratic title as the first Jew in the history of the Austrian empire, his granite gravestone is crowned with a coat of arms.

The Jewish cemetery is open to public daily except for Saturdays and other Jewish festive days. The key is available against a deposit in the tourist centre in Mladá Boleslav, in the Museum of the Mladá Boleslav Region, or from the cemetery manager (Mr. Žák, mobile: 607 754 038).
