A main cycling route running along the entire course of the Jizera River from the Polish border to Prague, which passes through the Jizera Mountains, the Krkonoše Mountains, Bohemian Paradise and Central Bohemia.

The entire route can currently be followed on existing marked cycle paths. From the settlement of Jizerky along the river, you can use cycle routes No. 22 (via Kořenov to Paski nad Jizerou), No. 4170 (via Vysoké nad Jizerou to Semily, Železný Brod and Turnov), No. 14 (via Turnov to Přepery), No. 223 (via Svijany, Mnichovo Hradiště to Klášter Hradiště nad Jizerou) and No. 241 (via Mladá Boleslav, Benátky nad Jizerou, Lázně Toušeň to Prague).

These cycle routes follow the flow of the river for a greater or lesser distance and try to minimize difficult climbs. Especially in the upper reaches of the river, however, cyclists cannot avoid partial elevation changes. The surface and quality of the cycle paths is as varied as the landscape they cross. Nevertheless, this long-distance cycling route with its almost 190 kilometres invites either a few days' wandering (for fit cyclists) or repeated cycling trips along the river corridor with visits to the adjacent historical monuments and places of interest.

In the Jizera Mountains, the Jizera Greenway route passes through the village of Jizerka and then descends into the Martinský valley, where in ancient times a provincial trail connected Bohemia and Silesia. The cycling route then turns from the Jizera Mountains to the Giant Mountains in the village of Mýto. After the old stone bridge over the Jizera River in Mýto, the recommended route follows an old road called Planýrka, traversing the slope on the right bank of the Jizera River to the typical mountain village of Paseky nad Jizerou, from where remarkable views of the central ridge of the Krkonoše Mountains begin. Then the river turns its course into a hilly region of distant vistas and deep valleys, natural and technical attractions and folk architecture. The cycle route follows the river up to the section below Semily, where the river cuts through a deep canyon with the Rieger Trail (for pedestrians only). The Bozkov dolomite caves lie above the right bank, while the Kozákov, the guardian mountain of the Bohemian Paradise, rises above the left bank. From Podspálov, the route follows the Jizera River to Železný Brod - the town of glass and folk architecture. Then you will follow the cycle path from Líšný along the river to Turnov, where during the ride through Malá Skála you will see how the river enters the sandstone of the Bohemian Cretaceous basin and above it rises the rock wall of Pantheon (Vranov) and the opposite breathtaking Suché Rocks. From Turnov, the Jizera flows along a mostly landscaped riverbed. The Hrubý Rohozec castle towers above the right bank, and on the left side of the river are the most famous rock towns - Hruboskalsko, Příhrazské skály and Drábské světničky. At Mnichovo Hradiště, the Jizera leaves the area of sandstone bushes and flows through Mladá Boleslavsko, which has been closely linked to the automotive industry for the last hundred years. Many other castles, chateaux, ruins and religious buildings (Mnichovo Hradiště Chateau, Zvířetice, Michalovická Putna, Loreta in Kosmonosy) are located along the river. In the south, the Polabí region, whose gently undulating landscape is a suitable area for family excursions, gradually follows. The first sights along the trail are the castle in Benátky nad Jizerou, the Jabkenická obora with numerous ponds, and the quiet forests in the area of the former military area of Milovice. At the confluence of the Jizera and Elbe rivers, where our route crosses the Elbe cycle path, lies Káraný with its drinking water treatment plant for Prague. The interesting Toušeň Spa is on the other bank of the Elbe, where you can cross the footbridge and continue on to Prague.

You can also take the Greenway Jizera cycle route from the train station in Kořenov, Harrachov or Szklarska Poreba in Poland. Take the train from Prague to Tanvald and after changing trains from Tanvald to Kořenov or Harrachov. Some train connections allow transport of bicycles. For more information visit www.idos.cz. If you start your journey along the Jizera River to Prague from the train station in Kořenov and still want to ride the entire Greenway Jizera route, we have a solution for you. From the train station in Kořenov, cycle to Jizera along the marked cycle route No. 22. Due to the wide range of tourist attractions and activities near the river, it is possible to combine cycling with walking or visiting sights.
